As part of today's activities in Obs, some residents and artists have taken the initiative to create their own additions to the creative landscape of the hood that's been home to Streetopia events since we started this crazy experiment in 2015.⁠

In keeping with the tradition of creative interventions, artist Randolf Hartzenberg has created a solemn memorial to the victims of gender based violence in SA, by adding a black flag to the boom gate at Pepper Square on Nuttall Road. ⁠

Performance announcement! Coming to us live from the Ditshoswane Community Art Centre in Warrenton in the Northern Cape on the day will be Tremaine Barnes, aka Kaalvoet Prinses, who is an activist, lyricist, singer and founder of The Barefoot Campaign in support of survivors of sexual violence. ⁠

She's part of the Activate! Change Drivers Network and is focused on self empowerment as the means of building a better South Africa, believing that when people are self empowered they realize that they possess the power to change their own lives. ⁠

As part of our online streams for this year's event, the @ourworkshopct crew will be making a wall-mounted luminaire during a 5-hour workshop at the AfrikaBurn headquarters - and streamed on the day on our Chillaz stream! ⁠

CALLOUT: to make this happen, @theheathnashshop and the crew are calling for donations of white plastic milk bottles (as in this pic). Got white plastic milk bottles? Drop them off at AfrikaBurn's location in Salt River (8 Junction Rd) to see them transformed from waste to wonderful! ⁠

Using post consumer plastic waste (milk bottles), fourteen of Our Workshop's Langa members will cut floral and leafy shapes and attach them to a steel frame which will become a light-object. Watch it all unfold on the day on obs.streetopia.co.za⁠

Monwabisi "Soulitude" Dasi is a cultural activist with passion for poetry, music and visual arts. He uses all these mediums to express his personal experiences and reflect the world around him. His soulful tunes and moving poetry speak straight from the heart. He tells deeply personal stories and challenge the status quo.⁠
On Saturday 28th November, Soulitude will be collaborating with Bonolo Nkoane / @bonolodrumknoane (Drummer), William Jacobs Jr / @jacobsjr.william⁠
(Pianist) and Grant van Rooyen / @grant_bass(Bass Guitarist) to bring you some fresh hot songs, raps, tunes and grooves. ⁠

Our first completely online Streetopia event is coming at us on Saturday the 28th, as eTopia - and during the course of the day we'll be sharing live streams from a number of locations, including Obs, Salt River, Gauteng, Northern Cape and Mahikeng. ⁠

First up in our long list of amazing activities is a stream from Vosloorus, which you'll catch on our Chillaz Stream, and will feature art practitioner @neomonnapule 's 'Universal Man' sculpture, which in his words will be "a multidimensional man made out of religious geometric shapes".⁠
